Just letting y'all know that most of this bullshit happens in the northern states, particularly Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. These states are like the "bible belt" of the US. They're backwards and they love their guns. So don't go judging the whole country because of a few states. In most places in south india and the northeast, women are treated with respect.

I've been in india for some time now as a european and I cannot confirm this behavior to be common. The country has a long way to go still but campaigns for womens rights are everywhere and pop-culture is pointing people in the right direction with popular film-makers being critical of fanatic religion, gurus, mistreating women, etc. People from priviliged countries should keep in mind that a country with 1/6 of the worlds population is bound to have some issues. At least it is a democracy unlike china where bad news don't reach the outside world. Also the fact thst reported rape cases increase is a good sign because people are seeking justice while before this "shame" was commonly hidden away and not talked about. Not sorry for long text. Suck a dick racists who never moved their priviliged ass to experience another culture.
